The Tablet of Cascajal

At Cascajal in Costa Rica, there was found a tablet believed by many to be an example of Olmec writing.  This tablet would be the earliest known example of writing in the Western Hemisphere.  Unfortunately, because the tablet is the only such example known and was found outside of any archaeological context, it cannot be appropriately interpreted.
